Get whisked away on an hour and half scenic lake tour as you embark through layers of rich history on an adventure to the famous Spirit Island. Alright, so maybe not that amazingly exciting, but it is still a great trip to take and shouldn’t be passed up if you made the trek all the way to Maligne Lake.
The boats used are the same ones you see on Lake Minnewanka near Banff. So on a summer’s day the tours are typically packed and there is not a lot of free room. Thankfully people seem to have a tendency to want to stay seated on the benches inside. If you choose to venture to the back deck to get a more open air feeling it is usually not very busy.
The cruise along the lake is wonderful and the operator does a pretty good job explaining the geology and wild life you encounter over the duration of the trip. I do wish there were more options while on Spirit Island. For example to be able to stay and take the next ferry back or something along the lines as the time permitted on the island is rather short. If you are hoping to do any photography while out there you will feel rather rushed unfortunately.
